WOMAN CHARGED

27/08/2008 10:59:00 AM
THE 42-YEAR-OLD Batehaven woman charged over the murders of Batehaven Ken Keyte, 86, and his wife Margaret, 71, lived locally for many years.

Tracey Lee Pratt showed no emotion when she appeared before Magistrate Robert Rabbidge in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday charged with the murders.

Police allege the murders took place between 5pm on August 9 and 9.30pm on August 10 this year. Police found the couple's bodies in their Beach Road home after their son became concerned.

Both died from severe head injuries, which police believe were caused by a blunt instrument.

Pratt, who was arrested on Sunday, lived in a unit around the corner from the elderly pair.

She did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.

Solicitor Andrew Fleming, for Pratt, asked for a two-week adjournment to allow forensic examinations to be carried out.

However Magistrate Rabbidge adjourned the case to Wollongong Local Court on September 22.

The Times understands that Pratt, a mother of three, lived in the local area for a number years, residing - at different times - in Manyana, Milton and Ulladulla.

She worked as a shop assistant and as a cleaner and her children attended local schools.

She is believed to have moved from the area to Queensland about years ago before moving back to the South Coast about three years ago and was living seven doors down from the Keytes with her boyfriend and teenage son.
