Kokoda raffle to be drawn this Sunday

23/07/2008 11:53:00 AM
THE local cadet unit is running a raffle to help support members heading to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Track.

The raffle features a range of great prizes including a three-night family holiday in a deluxe spa cabin and lunch and movie tickets for first prize.

The raffle includes eight prizes, all valued at more than $50 and tickets are on sale for $2 each or three for $5.

Cadet Seven Diven was in Ulladulla last week selling tickets, grabbing people's attention with a Westfield Sei owned and built by Ian and Faye Diven.

The five speed Clubman sports car was hand built for use in racing and has been known to reach speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour.

The car was a good draw card to get people interested in raffle tickets and gave Steven the chance to discuss the trip with many interested onlookers.

The Shoalhaven Youth Kokoda Experience group will see locals Thea Ingold, Andrew Coleman, Stephen Comans, Steven Diven, Amy Pryor, Mtchell Barclay, Danielle Moore and Brittany Preston travel to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Track.

The trip will help those involved develop self determination, confidence and leadership skills along with enhancing teamwork and motivation.

The young people involved will walk the Kokoda Track, visit the Boman War Cemetery and research a World War II soldier who fought on the track.

The trip is hoped to give those involved the chance to learn more about Papuan culture and about the historical significance of the Kokoda Track.

The young people involved are seeking sponsorship to help fun the trip and are running the raffle to help raise funds.

The raffle will be drawn this Sunday, July 27 so there is only a few days left to get your tickets.

Tickets are available at Faye's Fiction and Fotocopy, in the Plaza, Ulladulla up until the draw.

8/09/2008 | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
